no sound after re-install

Can anyone please help? I've re-installed xp on my pc but have no sound. I have an on-board soundcard and have enabled sound on the set-up menu. When I go to the device manager there is a yellow qustion mark against media devices.When I click to install it can't find it. I thought it would be on my xp disc- but not so. What am I missing or doing wrong? Can anyone help?

have you anyother discs that came with your computer ,if so look in them as there should be the drivers for the sound card.

AC'97 sound drivers. That's what onboard usually is.

You need to load sound drivers. If you know what the onboard Chipset is you can download drivers for it if you do not have motherboard CD

I've got an AsRock motherboard disc, as its an on board sound would it likely to be on that?
