no sound

I have just renstalled windows on my laptop and dloaded sp3
when i go to play music, movie, no sound.
when i go to control panel>sound and audio devices>Volume tab.
next to the speaker icon it says no devices, but the laptop has speaker installed, do i need to dload extra drivers to this or dload drivers for my plug in speakes and try that?
i have tried plugging the speakers in but still it says no

Yes you need sound drivers if you post some details about your PC or motherboard we can point you to the website.

You could also try Windows Update and look at the suggested hardware updates to see if drivers are suggested there.

Depending on the model and how old the laptop is,you normally receive a disk (drivers and utilities),if you have this...install everything on the disk.

If you do not have the disc,as above by chub_tor.

This will identify your motherboard for you click here just download and install,then look under Mainboard and post back the details.
