No sound...

After messing about in various locations with sound settings ( I am attempting to transfer vinyl to PC- but that's another post) I now find myself with no sound on the PC. I have checked there are no 'mute' buttons ticked in these locations, so is there a way of returning all settings to default? (I tried Device Manager-Soundcard-'Refresh', should that have done it?) OS is 98SE.

Have you checked all of the physical connections between your PC and the speakers?

Yeah, they're fine.

what happens if you reboot?

Reboot- still nothing.

When this happened to a friend of mine, it turned out that something had interfered with his BIOS settings. Returning all the BIOS settings to their default values restored the sound.
