No Sound

Hello one and All

My partner has just had to have a reformat of harddrive as he was attacked by a Trojan Horse....Again. Evil so and so's. He has been loading back the software he uses, turned on the speakers, but now, no sound. Gone into Control Panel and it is saying No Sound Device. Can anyone point us in the right direction to get his ears back. LOL.

Running Windows XP SP2.

Many Thanks

Have you loaded the sound card drivers?

Checked in Volume Control that nothing is muted?

Thanks for your response. I too am wondering if the driver for the soundcard has been overlooked. We will contact our 'fixer' on Monday.

Has windows been reinstalled from a microsoft cd or has some form of manufacturers reload cd been used?

Is the machine store bought, self build or custom built by a 3rd party?

look in device manager. do you have an entry for sound, video and game controllers? does it have an exclamation mark against it? or is there an entry (usuallu at the bottom, but not always) called something like unknown device?
