No sound

This one's got me confused. I accidently plugged the output from my DVD into the lineout (headphone) socket on my laptop. I now have no sound and the internal microphone doesn't work. Sounds appear to play and the mike records but nothing is saved/played back.

I have rebooted, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers used headphones, disbaled the device and nothing is muted. Have i blown my soundcard and can I replace it? Thanks

Is the sound onboard or is it a card but eitherway you can replace it but as for have you blown it I don't know.

It's onboard can u add expansion cards to a laptop?

I've no idea why the onboard sound went but I bought an external Sound Blaster card and this works just an extra box to lug around. But the card is reccomended. The moral is don't plug a line in with loads of static on it into the headphones socket.
