My brother gave me his intel celeron d 3ghz foxconn p4m800p7mb motherboard and processor the other day.
the problem is the 5.1 channel ac'97 onboard sound is not working. all the sound drivers are displayed in device manager, the sound is not muted on volume settings. so i backed all my data up and reinstalled windows xp pro. still no sound? looked in the bios, and the onboard sound is enabled.
will i have to buy a soundcard, our is there some way around this. even if i buy a pci soundcard will i be able to get sound?. windows xp automatically installs a default driver for the onboard sound?.

Please do not be offended, but is the speaker jack fully in the green socket and speakers powered as i have seen speakers plugged in wrong socket.
Also control panel/sounds/volume tab make sure not muted also bottom advanced make sure no speakers is not selected.
