No Mouse Detected

HI All, I've got a old win 98 pc which now for some reason does not pick up the mouse, whether it be a ps2 or serial mouse. If i boot up in safe mode the attached serial mouse works fine, but when I boot up in normal windows mode, there is no mouse present on screen. Does anyone have an idea why this is or a fix for the problem. As well as no mouse, the screen resolution has changed, but until I get the mouse to work, it difficult to see if I can change the screen resolution back to what it should be.

Thanks once again.

Boot in safe mode and look in the following files

autoexec.bat (in the root)

config.sys (in the root)

win.ini (in the Windows or Windows/system folder)

system.ini (in the Windows or Windows/system folder)

Take out any and all references to mice.

Save the modified files and reboot - your system may then pick up the mouse afresh and detect it correctly.
