no internet connection

hi switched on pc but cant get on the internet (internet explorer cant display the webpage) my wifes laptop is connected okay
checked network connections there are 3
1. local area connection network cable unplugged
2. local area connection 2 network cable unplugged
3. 1934 connection connected
switched router of and changed the cables on pc
still no connection
can you help me thanks kirriejim.
on wifes laptop her email is

winxp home, router netgear dg834gv3.

Not a good idea to put your wife's email address on a forum post.
Check that the ethernet card is properly seated

If all is well in Device manager there is no need to check the ethernet card.
I don't know if it will work, but in Device Manager Right Click on it, and select Uninstall Driver then Reboot.It should reload the drivers when it starts.
It's worth a try.

From your original posting, you have *two* network adapters installed. (Ignore the 1394 connection as that's Firewire.) Have you tried connecting with each of the adapters, because it is unlikely that both would have failed simultaneously.

Are you actually in Carnoustie or Kirriemuir, because I will be in Carnoustie this afternoon and could have looked in to help?

hi guys problem fixed
it wasnt the router as i first thought it was my home plug it had died never thought to check home plugs thanks to all for your input
