No Dial Tone error message on modem

I have just got rid of my homehighway digital account and reverted to the internal modem i have used in the past. I am getting a 'no dial tone' error message when i try to connect. I have checked the phone line and leads and they operate correctly. The phone line is plugged into line at the back of the tower. The computer automatically detects the modem out of port 'Com 3'. Is the problem to do with the driver for the modem, i have only got the restore disk, not sure whether to use it. Another factor might be my upgrade to XP?
