No cursor in Google search bar

I am running Windows XP Pro and use Firefox with Google.
When I execute Firefox, the Google page is displayed but I have to force the flashing cursor into the search bar by clicking on it. The number of times I have started typing without looking at the screen and when I do look find no entry are countless.
If I change browser to IE with Google, I get the flashing cursor on execution.
Is there anything I can do to automatically get the flashing cursor in Firefox?

I24 Are you saying that I should remove all add-ons and try again? JavaScript is enabled by the way.
