I bought a "new" dvdrom for my laptop exactly the same model as the previous (toshiba dvd-rom sd c2612)the only differance is the maanufactured date (old one was july 2002 the other aug 2003).
With my previous dvd-rom i could see it in bios...primary ide-toshiba hdd,secondary ide-toshiba sd c2612....but when I insert the "new" dvd-rom it does'not come up in bios...primary ide-toshiba hdd, secondary ide-disabled...?
how do i fix it? it works fine in windows but i cant boot with it.

Does the BIOS have an option to check for new hardware at boot?

secondary ide-disabled

enter BIOS (how dependds on make of PC {del , F2 etc.})

check secondary IDE enable, probably under the advanced section.

There are no settings in bios to either enable secondary ide or to automatically detect new hardware, unfortunately.
