the new xp update system is surely a violation of privacy, if they take a look to see what you have on your pc before lettig you update your computer, surely its agaisn the data protection act because if your new to windows and dont understand what they are doing they surely could see what you have on your pc, though they do ask by the activeX download if you dont get it you cant get the downloads?

all they do is look to see if the correct hardware and software are correct. If you have an OEM XP disc and you try and load it on another system, then it will not activate.

I cant see the problem here

The Windows updater always has scanned your PC - how else could it determine which updates and fixes you were lacking? All that's new is that it now also checks that your Product Key is kosher.Pretty small beer to get irate about.

if you have nothing to hide does it really matter. after all they are only trying to put a end to dodgy software. If I pay the full price so should others.
