New Wireless Network

I am new to wireless/networking, so please bear with me.

I have a Windows XP PC and a Windows XP laptop and I want to network them wirelessly for file sharing and internet connection sharing.

The PC doesn’t have a network/LAN card but the laptop has a built-in 802.11a,b,g card.

I have a 2mb BB connection using a [email protected] Fast 800-840 USB modem.

I propose to buy a USB wireless dongle for the PC and USB wireless router.

If I then connect the router between the existing modem and the PC and the USB dongle to a separate USB socket on the PC, will I have a network?

In other words will the router ‘talk’ to the dongle which in turn will ‘talk’ to the laptop and allow me to share files and the internet between the two?

Or have I missed the point entirely?

I didn't know there was such a thing as a usb wireless router that could do what you want.

A better idea would be to buy a wireless modem/router and a usb wireless dongle. You would need to be able to connect to the wireless modem/router by ethernet cable initially to setup the wireless, but once it's done it, it can be removed.

My suggestion would also mean that you wouldn't need the PC on for the laptop to use the internet.
