New Windows Messenger won't install, help needed!!

  gazmix 13:25 16 Sep 09

I have been prompted to install latest messenger in order to use the programme.
It starts to install & then starts to Roll Back & says:-
Could not open key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WINDOWS\Current Version\Drivers32. verify i have sufficient access to that key.

Please close all programmes & try again. It looks like a programme is preventing installer from working. hr.0x80070643.

I have no other programmes open, do i have to uninstall my old messenger 1st!!

You need to go into the REGISTRY and give yourself permissions for that key. Simply run REGEDIT, and then navigate to the key. Then RIGHT click, and choose Permissions, and in the check boxes bottom left, check full control, read and special permissions on and off until they are not grayed out, but are checked with a white background.

Then click advanced, and also select relace permissions on CHILD objects with permissions selected here.

Do this for as many registry keys as you get errors for. Close Regedit, and try again with the program.

You may need to reboot.
