new vista laptop cant connect to wireless

I have just bought a new toshiba laptop. I have a buffalo airstation router but the laptop cant connect. The network is shown with good signal and I have entered the correct security key. However when i press connect it says cannot connect. I have tried the diagnose but it just says there is an unknwn problem. I have tried changing the security from WEP to WPA and no security but it still does not connect.
I have an XP laptop that connects fine. Does this mean there is a compatability issue with vista.

I found there was a problem with the adapter. It was not set to receive 802.11b.
