I have just purchased and fitted a new second 250gb Maxtor hard drive. When i start the machine the bios seams to find the drive but window XP does not.

What do i need to do?

You will need to copy the SATA driver onto a floppy
disk from your Motherboard Disk & and insert into your floppy drive.Boot XP from your cd drive and press F6 when asked if you want to set up RAID etc & enter choices on screen.

xp was designed before sata,so it doesnt recognise it.go to your motherboard manufacturers website and see if theres a driver for sata in the drivers section.or you can right click my computer-properties-hardware-device manager....and then see if your hard drive is driver supported.right click on the sata drive and click update driver.hope that was more helpful than confusing.
