new printer disconnects internet

Hi, not sure if anyone can help, but a friend of mine has just connected printer to their PC, when they try to print something it disconnects itself from the internet and will only reconnect when the printer is turned off. They contacted NTL who said the USB ports were working against each other! Anyone know of a way to combat this?

probably a conflict of resources - go to printers and remove printer. Unplug the printer and reboot. Switch back on and let the pc start up again - now plug the printer back, if possible, into a different usb socket.

If the printer is USB connected, move it away from the modem USB. The modem should be on a hub on its own, nothing in the second port.
