i recently upgraded motherboard from ecs k7s5a to msi kt4v . i based my decision on benchmark tests from a magazine which claimed about 5 fps improvement if i swapped . i ran 3d mark 03 and my score with the new m/board and 768mb ddr was about 150 lower than with ecs board and 512mb ddr.
my system spec is as follows:
amd xp1700+
kt4v
768mb DDR266 - 1x 512 2x 128
leadtek ti4200 64mb DDR
30gb Maxtor 7200 rpm
direct x9.0a
nvidia driver 43. (whatever the new one is)

could my slow down be down to bios settings , if so anyone know which settings if enabled/disabled can cause slow down? any help would be great , thanks.

I notice the MSI KT$V supports DDR 266/333/400, was the test on the board with PC2700 RAM, as I see you are using PC2100.

they were using 2700 but there should still be a speed increase even with 2100 even if only about 5%

Agree. Your old board was matched perfectly to the memory, but now it is not. You are probably losing clock cycles. Recommend upgrade to PC2700 or PC3200 RAM.

How does it run 'in the realworld'? How are your games ? Sometime benchmarks don't tell the full story.

Did you do a clean install of the os?

in response to paranoid it seems to play better on games as far as my eye can tell and also better with apps in general , i must admit ive wondered about 3d marks accuracy because of all the alienware ads during it , have they sorted the 3200 ram as ive heard there are instability issues?
Jim v yes i always format and reinstall whenever i replace hardware , experience has taught me how hard it is to remove the remnance of old drivers.
