Hi,

just been asked a question that iam not too sure of the answer.

Whats happened: Motherboards and CPU fried in a bad overclock experience [not mine!] but they have now ordered a mobo and cpu, but pondered whether xp home oem will be ok after a fresh format, or will MS have other ideas...i.e new license etc??

Just reinstall and activate over the phone. MS do not ask any questions unless they get suspicious - eg it's the 20th time this week that the same copy of XP has been activated (and yes they know which particular copy it is - it's part of the activation string)

ok thanks for that. will it matter if it is totally a different mobo n cpu, like a 478 to a skt a etc....

No it won't matter. Don't worry about it - you probably won't even have to phone, likely it'll activate over the net as usual. If you do have to phone it's never a problem.
