New laptop XP problem

I've got a lovely new laptop (higrade m6600) with 512 memory which doesn't like being turned off. Its OK hibernating but if turned off is really tempermental. eg if turn it off next time access internet it refuses to recognise the connection. If hibernate all time no problems whatsoever. Have resorted to hibernating all time but sometimes (eg when connceting to a projector for a presentation) you have to turn it off. I've learnt to make sure do a sytem restore checkpoint before turning off now but was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why this happens. i can live with it but its irritating. Jim

Have you Norton products?

Only a latest update can cause such problems.

Or what connection do you have, Dial-up? Could be the driver causing a crash or something, you could even try disabling a LAN adapter if you have one.

Broadband? Try updates from microsoft or your modem.
