New Laptop, Should Word 2010 be uninstalled?

  Ankermi 09 Jan 11

Another member of the family have acquired a new Toshiba Satelitte laptop which has come preloaded with a 30 day trial Word 2010.

As it is a necessity to have PowerPoint and Excel (which we understand Word 2010 does not) he wants to install Word 2007 Home and Office from the CD thus having PP and Excel.

Question:- Should Word 2010 be uninstalled before installing Word 2007?

The Laptop has not yet been set up

In a word - yes.

Note that it is MS Office that includes PowerPoint and Excel - not MS Word, What you/they will be installing from the CD is Office, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Access (among others). (Unless you have some package that I'm not aware of)

Yes, unistll the 2010 version and then install your 2007 Office suite.

Many Trial Offers of individual parts of the Microsoft Office Suite, of which Word is part, actually have the whole of Office Loaded but just the Word Trial part enabled.

Try a bit of digging. Contact the M$ 'enabling' Section and ask. You may find that the parts of Office that you need are already there, for a suitable fee!

I believe that the Upgrade from 2007 to 2010 is relatively cheap, so it's worth mentioning that you have a full copy of whatever version of 2007 that you have.

Many Retailers were selling 2007 with a free Upgrade to 2010, in the months before it launched.

Many thanks for all your replies.

Have uninstalled the trial 2010 and reinstalled 2007. All working fine.
