New laptop with Norton pre installed

Seasons greeting everyone.
A friend of mine has a new laptop, which, presumably runs Vista and has 6 months free Norton. I can't give much more detail than that at the mo, but the main concern now is what to install regarding anti malware/spyware etc.
I thank you all in advance.

I use (in Vista) the Defender antispyware, Windows own Firewall and Avast anti virus, all here

I use spybot as this picks up some of the marginal sites that collect information about you:

I've also been very impressed with AVAST linked above.

I would personally dump Norton; after uninstalling it run the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of any remaining traces from:

I can also wholeheartedly vouch for Avast! which also updates itself, along with S and D, SpywareBlaster, AdAware 2007 and SUPERAntiSpyware.

I would get rid of Norton, either now or at least at the end of the "free" period, then install AVGFree (or Avast if you prefer) it can be set to update automatically, etc. Also install the anti-malware suggested by Stuartli.

Agree with above - get rid of Norton A.S.A.P

Then use AVG free.
