I have just connected a new laptop to my network, well, it vitually did it itself, main desktop connected to router with ethernet cable, second desktop with USB adapter. I now get this message on start up of laptop.

Windows system error.

" A duplicate name exists on the network"

I believe it is my fault putting in the wrong name on set up! Everything seems to be working ok, how do I get to changing this name?

You may have given the same name to two of the computers in your network. Each must have its own name but be in the *same* Workgroup.

In Windows XP, right click "My Computer", select Properties and then the Computer Name tab to change one of the names.

Thanks for your help. I have changed the name on the laptop and that has fixed it,
