New Laptop DVD R Drive Not Reading Burnt CDs

  Mjdl 14:07 16 Jan 05

I purchsed a new Acer laptop on 31st December 2004. I've successfully loaded MS offic, PSP8 iTunes etc, but my data backed up from my old PC on CD will not copy over. (MP3, jpeg. MS office docs). Files will sometimes be copied but then can hear the drive struggeling and get error message "I/O device error". Tried various makes audio etc. all work on my desktop & laptop. CDs will show as empty in w explorer, but on reinsert files can be found. Supplier insists nothing wrong and that some drives will not read cds burnt on different pcs. But mine will not even read cds it has burnt. They've taken back but still say works ok. Is it because I'm copying large amounts of data? Help please
