i realise this is a very general question but here goes:
want to get my wife a new laptop she has an acer 2303 wmli, celeron 340 processor,15.4 wide tft,40gbhd,dvd writer,256mb ddr, wifi enabled.
She only uses it for nvq work, assessments, internet browsing etc
Budget is £400
Have seen these so far,

those specs sound fine for what she does?

I'd consider an Acer again, but think about what improvements you want. A better screen? A lighter more portable system?

The only advantage of Advent systems is that they're fairly easy to fix when things go wrong. However, they are pretty good at going wrong in my experience!

for a year or two yet.

Put an extra 516MB of RAM in it and spend the rest in Paris.

Yeah the laptop is ok but its a bit slow and the screen is none too good thats really the only reason i want to change it and it is a bit scratched,a friend has offered £150 for it so thats not bad.
Wee eddie i had to laugh-Paris? great idea thanks

changing the screens settings.

The extra RAM will revitalise the speed, it's all you need to do.

No i havent tried the extra ram its some obscure type but i can get some its cheaper than a new laptop i suppose, the screen is as it is one of them "matt" finish ones its not a great picture if i ramp up the contrast and brightness the battery lasts about an hour
thanks for your input

If you put in more RAM in, the battery should last longer, as the Hard Drive won't be being used as Virtual Memory quite as often.
