Ok. I have a friend that is interested in purchasing a new laptop. They have approx £450 to spend and need something that can give.

Model HP
Windows XP Pro
Autocad
Photoshop
Microsoft office 03/05
Adobe
Encarla
Peachtree

System Spec
HDD 80 or 160GB
RAM 512MB/1G or 4G
DVD/RW
WIFI
Blue Tooth

Dual Core or Celleron

12 Cell Battery & External speakers

Are we way off the mark here or is this achievable.
If anyone could point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Photoshop and Office are expensive, but there are free options (Serif Photo Plus, Open Office). Might be difficult to get XP now. 512 RAM not enough - 1GB for XP or 2GB for Vista.

Are you expecting to find a new laptop with all of your listed software pre-installed? You won't!

The cost of Photoshop alone would exceed your budget. Ditto Autocad.

I think you need to concentrate on just buying the laptop, then consider your friend's software requirements. As oldbeefer2 has suggested, there are lots of cheap or free packages that might satisfy your friend's needs without spending the thousands of pounds that your list represents.

Thanks Pineman100. I did suspect that this would be the case.
I'll pass this info on..
