New ISP wants to make me use Web mail

And I want to use my Mail client[Thunderbird]

Having set up Thunderbird to my new BT address
it demands either - a password or refers me to Yahoo mail.
I much prefer an Email client
but this password is the puzzlement.
I have my system password. or Web password, or the generic one the ISP gave me[which presumably can be changed to one of my choosing -eventually.]
Tried them and still does not want to know.
So whats to do?

It should be the same password as you use to log in to webmail.

If you are with BT phone up their technical support (Should be free number on your welcome letter) Tell them the problem and they will offer to remotely check your Thunderbird Settings - they did for one of my clients and sorted it in less than a minute.

It was done so fast even I couldn`t write it down and I was watching the guy do it on the screen!
