It is some time since I last added an extra HDD and need reminding of the procedure with Win XP Home. The new drive is recognised only at the start 'post' stage. It is a Maxtor 300 gb SATA connected to a SATA card in a PCI slot. It does not appear in the BIOS.
The drive needs to be formatted - how?

Thalmus, many thanks - I have been wandering around the WEB for some clear guidance and you set me on the right track in 5 minutes.

I suppose the answer may have been somewhere in Win Help but I have given up on that for real help.

Thanks also to PCA
