New internal CD/DVD writer problem

  rockdoctor2 08:54 12 Jan 08

I own a HP Compaq dc7100 Small Form Factor PC (running XP) which originally came with only a CD writer and DVD player (not a writer).
I purchased a LiteOn 20x DVD±RW, which fits perfectly.
When I start the PC, it recognises the new drive in the boot menu, and has a menu at the bottom of the screen (save and continue is the option I need to). The keyboard and mouse do not seem to work, however, so I cannot accept the save and continue command.
If I re-install the old drive everything works again.
Any ideas?

Have you checked that the jumper on the back of the new drive is set to master and not slave

Yes, set the new drive to the same setting as the old one ie. set it to master.
