new hdd showing wrong size

I have just put in a new hdd 320gb
installed win xp ok

now the 320gb hdd is only showing as 127gb

what have i done wrong

not a techno head plain enlish please would be a great help

Windows xp is limited to 127gb, install service pack 2 or go into control panel/admin tools/disk management, it will be shown there, you can add it to the xp half or create a separate partition.

just going to change drived and have a look i have sp2 disc will try install it first

right the partition is now showing in disc managment as 170.10 gb unalocated how do i combine the two partitions

Now I'm guessing

I think you should be able to highlight the unallocated space and choose either to accept this or allocate yet another drive which is less than the space available.

What IS certain, don't leave any allocated space because you wont be able to access it until you have defined how big it is, rather as you did for the first drive.
