New HDD not detected properly

  Grady 18:48 13 Apr 03

I have just put a new Western Digital 40Gb hard drive as slave to my 10Gb master hard drive. When I rebooted, the bios said it was "detecting primary slave" but this lasted for 20 mins or so before i rebooted again. This time i went into the bios and set the paremeters myself(from west. digital website) This time upon reboot the primary checks detected the new WD hard drive but then it hung again when AMIBIOS screen came up.
Any ideas whats going on? Tour help is appreciated.

Simple checks, which I'm sure you've already tried but its worth another look. Have you got the ribbon cable in the correct way round on the hard drive (red stripe nearest the power plug). And are you sure you have the jumper settings set for slave drive and not both drives set for master.
