Hello everyone,

Is it possible to format and partition a new HDD via a USB connection or will I have to plug it into the IDE as a slave?

I have bought a new HDD to use as an external USB device but when plugged in it is recognised in "Device Manager" & as working correctly. It is not however, showing in "My Computer" and therefore I cannot set it up for use. Did not want to remove existing slave drive if I could help it.

Hi, have you tried it in a different usb slot?
sometimes does the trick - it should show up in My Computer as "External Harddrive" with a drive letter.

ps - and yes you should be able to do it on the usb connection.

Right click on My Computer on Desktop....

Choose manage....

Right click on the disk (CHECH ITS THE RIGHT ONE) check again... format away!!

OK, thanks guys, disk now comes up in "My Computer" but, when I click on it a message comes up as follows.... G:\ is not accessable. The parameter is incorrect.
