New Hardware found that isn't new

I have been using my TuNit mpo3 player for some time, including connecting it to my PC via USB and copying / deleting files. Now Windows tells me it's found new USB hardware and failed to find whatever it needed. There is no installation CD. To make matters worse, it has done something to the mp3 player so that I can't even switch it off.
When I re-connect the mp3 player, I get a double "bing bong" and "Found new Hardware does not appear".
Any ideas?
