New Hardware Found - every time I boot XP

  dms05 09:14 21 Jan 08

I have a Mustek Scanner attached to my laptop. It's worked fine until recently. Now, everytime I boot into XP the 'New Hardware Found' wizard starts and I have to reinstall all the software/drivers (which involves rebooting). The installation works until the next reboot when the wizard reappears and I have to reinstall. Any ideas where the problem lies? (I've tried different USB sockets but always accepted the default paths for the software and drivers).

It seems almost any USB device can trigger this XP problem! In some cases the hardware continues to work, in others (like mine) the hardware fails to function. No obvious answer. MS suggestion is to tick the box 'don't try to install again' which isn't very helpful if the device has stopped working.
