new hard drive (what should i look for ?)

im looking into buying a new exsternal hard drive to free up some space on my main c drive ,are there anyings i sould be cairfull of,
i dont wont to slow down the speed of my pc of get one that wont be compatibal
im running on XP

They are all compatible. Choose from Seagate (PCWorld are flogging a 250Gb one for £109) or maxtor. They do not slow down the pC.

The only thing to watch is to make sure you have USB 2.0, it will say enhanced under USB devices in Device Manager, if you have USB 1.0 it will still work but more slowly and if that is the case you can always buy a PCI USB 2.0 card.
The external hard drive will not effect your computer speed.
