I have an old computer using a pc100 super socket 7 mainboard m577.

It has 128 mb of ram and a 300mhz chip. Runs winme

I wish to upgrade the hard drive. Can I fit any ide hard drive or is there anything I need to take into account?

I was thinking of 40 or 60gig 7200rpm.

Thanks in advance

Mark

According to click here 32GB is all that the M577 board will handle / use.

This thread also warns against trying to use anything other than UDMA33 for any drive - click here

A lot will depend on the BIOS that you have - it may need to be updated for a big hdd - check the manufacturer site for details.

Many 40Gb drives come with a capacity limiting jumper, to make them into 32Gb drives. Seems like a waste, but then 32Gb drives are not made, so this is the way to get the most you can for your motherboard.
