New Hard Drive

I’ve been asked by a friend who lives some 200 odd miles away, what type of hard drive she needs to buy. Since she’s not familiar with the inside of her computer she’s doesn’t now how to tell me what kind of connection her existing drive has to enable me to tell whether it’s an IDE or SATA. Is there a dummies way of determining this info?

You could get her to run Belarc Advisor and read it from the result. It's free.

Since I have no great knowledge of my friend's computer ability, it never dawned on me that she might have SIW on her machine. However, she has and by sending me a screen print the drive is revealed as an ATA or IDE.
Thanks to you all that responded. What a lifeline this forum is when you're in computer trouble.

This (click here) shows how to install an IDE hard drive so you may want to forward the link to your friend.
