Hi. I have just bought and installed a new 200gb hard drive. It shows up in this program, and in device manager, but when I double click on My Computer, it is not showing. How can I sort this please?

Have you formatted the drive?

  Yo Ho 05:55 13 Apr 04

I'm nearly sure my mate did yesterday, but just in case, can you tell me how to do it, and I will try.

I'm no expert in this but, assuming you are using WXP (likely with such a large drive):

In Disk Management (right click My computer) right click on the new drive and check format. You will then be presented with the formatting/partitioning options.

Wait until someone more expert comes in to confirm the above as I don't do this very often.

Thanks for that €d
I'm actually running Win2000, but will have a look anyway, and hang on for further advice.

I have found it in disk management, showing as 128gb unallocated?

Did you get a floppy disc with the drive ? this will contain the formating software, alternatively go to the HD manufacturers website and download the formating utility from there.

  Yo Ho 07:16 13 Apr 04

No disc or floppy, but will check out their website. Been wondering if my system can cope with such a large hard drive, that's why I included the whole system setup?

A mate has just suggested that I might need an IDE Controller Card. Does this make any sense to anyone?

Do the same as X\P, they both basically the same.

Right click my computer and pick manage. Now scroll down to disk management, look for the new drive in the right hand window. Right click on an empty space on the new drive and you should have the option to partition and format.

Sorry missed the one about you found it in disk management but only 128gig.
