new graphics card....!

  siouxah1 14:50 28 Feb 04

My friend has been looking at purchasing a new graphics card, he seems to have narrowed it down to a card that either has;
geforce fx5900
geforce fx5900 ultra

the reason I am asking this is, does anybody have knowledge and use of the two cards and what advantages?

being nearly £120 difference, he is not sure if the near double value cost we be a worthwile price to pay.

It depends on what he is using his PC for? like gaming?

  siouxah1 14:59 28 Feb 04

yes he plays games but he doesn't just use his PC for that.

he also does video editing and other such stuff.

the reason he is looking at the ultra, is possible future proofing to some degree.

to be found on the Web. Here's the conclusion of just one click here=

It is possible to convert the fx5900 to the Ultra with a free 'Flash Mod', but I would be very nervous of doing this. Have a looksee here if you are brave enough! TC.

Radeon 9800pro are really good cards and you can now get them for a mere £ here
The fx5900ultra is probably a better card but i think (that is think) the 9800pro is better than the standard fx5900. Look around on the web to find some reviews of each card.

Thanks everyone for help given.

It was decided that, after perusal of some graphs showing not a lot of difference between standard and ultra, that the extra £120 was not in line with additional capability.

The standard was purchased.
