New DVD writer only works in PIO mode

  deltalimaka1 22:54 20 May 06

I have just installed a Pioneer DVR 110 to enable me to read from DVD Ram in my Medion 8080 PC which originally had a Pioneer 106D writer and worked in DMA mode with no problems. The 110 drive will not read any discs in DMA mode but does manage to read in PIO mode.I have updated the firmware of the 110 to 1.39 but this had no effect. My system has a 3.0Ghz processor with 512mb ram with Win XP SP 2. Has anyone got any solutions or info they can give me regarding this problem?
Thanks in advance.

You cannot do any more as this is a Pioneer DVR 110 drive design problem. They may fix with firmware later later if this is a new model

He as just said is other drive worked OK on DMA mode so it must be switched on in the BIOS

I have tried uninstalling the drivers as suggested , but this didn't make any difference when the system restarted, and yes woodchip DMA mode is ok.
Thanks for your input

worth trying.

Uninstall the Secondary IDE controller in device manager and reboot.
See if that helps - otherwise I suspect a duff drive.

anything from the night shift?

I tried uninstalling the Secondary IDE Controller last night, then rebooted ---everything the same. The DMA mode was auto selected, but the drive could read nothing. I changed the mode to PIO and the drive does do everything it's supposed to ---only much slower than expected. ie dvd-r copy at 1.6 speed,cd copy worked and dvd-ram read ok.

Thanks all
