New drives not working or showing on pc

Both my new drives came today, a dvd rom, and a rewriter.
Have installed into case and reconnected everything. When I started up the pc it took ages to get onto the main screen, didn't really take much notice of that, but when I tried to play a cd, nothing happened.
In device manager optical drives are no longer listed.
When the pc came on a second time it beeped and I quickly saw that something is not compatible, but I did see that both green lights came on, on both drives.
What has happened, and how do I correct this?

Advice please,

Thanks

Steve

Have you been to Control Panel > Add Hardware?

Make sure the jumpers on the back are set correctly - make the burner master and the other one slave.

Forgot, re-check all conections are fully home etc.

Will have to turn off to check it all, but will be back later.

In the add hardware, all I get is that they are working, but they're not showing under my computer either.

Back in a bit.

I feel very stupid.

I told myself to check which one was master and slave. I hadn't. Both were set to master, which I've now put right, and both are now showing under my computer. More importantly, both are now working.

Silly mistake to make, but thanks to all.
