I have just installed a new segate 300GB sata drive, the second sata drive on the PC. When viewed in windows explorer all text for the drive and sub folders show in blue with all other drives and folders having black text as usual.
The drive appears to be running correctly and shows no problems.
Is this an indication that there is a problem or is it normal?

First, check in Device Manager.

If you have enabled compression on the drive and chosen the option to show compressed files/folders in a diff colour (in winxp), that could be your problem

Yoda you may be on the right track I have enabled compression will have to check the settings when I get back home.
Where would that particular setting be hidden away?

goto windows explorer, view, folder options, view tab. look for "dsiplay compressed files / folders" in a different colour" and untick it.
may be slightly different as I am on a nt machine now, but just have a look around for view options
