I would be surprised if you can upgrade the cpu in a laptop.

In broad terms Laptops do not upgrade, the circuit board/CPU are one machine made integrated piece.

You money is best spent on a machine of the spec you desire

Thanks for the feedback If I had the money to get a new laptop I would hence wanting to upgrade instead I opened up my laptop today, the cpu is easily removable... Is it not just a case of swapping it out for a different one?

Assume its fitted with an I5?

you won't see much different if you change to an i7 even if the motherboard will accept it.

you need to look up motherboard compatibility don't forget a bigger cpu is going to require a bigger heatsink and fan that's unlikely to fit in your laptop.

No it's currently fitted with an Intel i3 330m but I want to put an i5 in

The general/consensus here is don't

So ,if you think otherwise, just do it.

Tell us how you get on.

Be aware that it is not only the CPU, but its associated IC's that need changing.
