new color ink cartridges won't work

  Razz9930 15:40 06 Dec 05

My lexmark x85 has always worked perfectly until I tried to change the color cartridge. The new ink doesn't register on the ink level gauge and will not print. I have tried 2 brand new cartridges. The black ink cartridges changes out just fine. Thanks for your advise as I can't afford a repair shop.

Carefully clean the contacct strip in the holder
Make sure the sealer strip is fully of and clear.

In the printer set up[I am not particlarly adept with Lexmark] is set to print colour and not black only

Thanks for your good advise. I tried all suggestions and nothing works for more then a few documents. Both ink cartridges still register full. Print program is set on color. I remembered a few months ago I tried to refill a color cartridge with one of those refill kits. I wonder if it leaked and plugged up. Part of the problem with this particular printer is its difficult to see into it. I will have to find a repair shop I fear or stick to black ink. Thanks again!

Cheaper to buy a new Lexmark printer - one of its all-in-ones is currently being advertised at £29.99.

But don't be surprised at how much the replacement cartridges cost...
