New built pc freezes onloading motherboard drivers

  richierich 15:51 14 Nov 04

Loaded xp pro, using motherboard disk (PC chips) loads one or two drives then locks, have to switch off to restart. Cant get past the audio drivers.
Is it likely to be faulty motherboard, RAM, processor or graphics card(although graphic card working fine in previous computer)

It could be the CD that is at fault, is it scratched at all

  richierich 16:51 14 Nov 04

cd looks fine, the problem occurs at various places, inconsistant.

  Dorsai 16:54 14 Nov 04

When it fails, do you know which driver it is trying, and failing to load?

  richierich 16:57 14 Nov 04

seem to be the main culprit

  alan227 18:13 14 Nov 04

Is it onboard sound or a sound card.

  Rayuk 18:15 14 Nov 04

Download the latest drivers from the website try loading them that way

  richierich 18:57 14 Nov 04

its on board sound.
I suppose I could download latest drivers but would that reaaly help. As im not getting as far as loading the drivers anyway, even out of date drivers should still work

  Rayuk 19:21 14 Nov 04

Just to discard the theory that the cd or cdrom is to blame

  woodchip 19:23 14 Nov 04

try loading the latest graphics drivers first

You could also copy the Motherboard Drivers CD to the desktop and start the comp in safe mode then load the drivers from the copy on the desktop. it may work
