new build getting lots of errors, HELP

  hal_cyon 18:02 27 Nov 05

I have just built a new pc today

M/B - Gigabyte K8 Triton series
CPU - AMD Sempron 3000+ (64 Bit)
RAM - 512 DDR (400)

and when I went to install XP, there were several messages saying "file can't be copied, etc"

I tried another XP disc and still the same errors appeared

so I took out the HDD and put it in another PC and tried installing XP, which worked fine
so I then put the HDD back in the new PC and now I keep getting Stop errors?

any ideas would be a great help

thanks in advance...HAL

Can you post the Stop error code, as it could be all sorts of things that can cause these sort of problems.
Just as a quick fix try a different stick of ram if you have one.

Also try a different cd rom drive if you can, it could be the cd drive is having trouble with reading the winxp cd. It once happened to me.

I tried a new stick of memory and still get stop error

first I got 0x0000007B

then after trying new memory 0x00000074

I tried 2 different XP cd's and got errors with both, It's a brand new DVD-RW so I don't think that is the problem

Boot into the BIOS and see if the Hard Drive and DVD are set to DMA

I had a look and it says IDE DMA transfer access Enabled

MS knowledgebase suggests a RAM problem. can you try the ram in the other PC or not? could MOBO be faulty?
