Ensured it's enabled in the BIOS? Installed the drivers? click here Checked Device Manager?

thanks for your speedy responce. bit nervy in bios
is there a sub heading or section to be in

  brundle 23:28 21 Apr 08

Integrated Peripherals, most likely. You can't do much harm in the BIOS except setting the CPU mult/FSB too high and even then it will just refuse to boot until you reset the CMOS.

Do you have a case speaker connected? If you do swap the connector round, shouldn't make a difference but you never know with computers.

Do either of the lights on the motherboard ethernet connector flicker when the cable is connected?

  Lee.C 22:52 22 Apr 08

Brundle mentioned it earlier but 'Device Manager' is going to give you a definite answer.

if XP:-
Right-click on 'My Computer' and select 'properties'. You'll find it in the 'Hardware' tab.

If Vista:-
Right click on 'Computer' and select 'properties'. It's in the top-left corner.

You should see your ethernet connection in the list BUT only after clicking on the + sign next to 'Network Adaptors'.

If you can see it before clicking on the + it probably means it's been disabled. Just right-click on it to correct.

If you don't see it but there's another item listed as an unknown device, it means you need to install the drivers for it.

If it's not there and there's no unknown device either, it probably needs turning on in the bios.

ok did as you say in device manager

realtek rtl 8139/810xfamily fast ethernet nic
