please can any one help.

I have one Pc with XP on it and one that has a partitioned hard drive ( XP & 98SE ).
All I want to do is share/transfer files/folders between both.
I have put in two PCI cards and crossover cable and get an icon saying that the network is enabled.I have pinged each PC and they are OK, but they will not ping to each other.
I only have ONE home icon in my LAN conection on each PC.
various questions ?
As I do not have the host and guest icons on each PC does that mean that I am not infact connected ?
Also, As I have no plans to use them on the internet do I need to worry about TCP/IP settings and could these be causing me the problems ?

Any help would be appreciated .

Right, you need to make sure each PC is given an IP address.

Thanks Gaz,
Problem solved,it turned out to be that I had not pushed in the PCI card enough.I can now connect.
