Networking XP and ME - can only see one way

  dean_e_boy 12:44 04 Feb 03

I have used a belkin router so that I may share my broadband internet connection between two pc;s. This works fine.

I have also shared the hard drives of both pcs so that we may share files. From the XP machine I can see the HDD on the ME machine, but if I want to look at the HDD from the ME machine it tells me that this is not accesible.

What have I done wrong????

This is a security featur of XP, you need to have the same log in for both pcs. unfortunatly if you have me on one of the pcs as you say then you might not have a log on for it, so xp does not allow you too see the hded even though you have enabled it. This is also a feature of windows me, or should that be a flaw, get it updated, would be your best bet.

Are you sure that you have disabled the XP's own firewall? Look for ICF.

Yes, the XP firewall has been disconnected

It was my Mcafee Firewall. Should it stop the other PC from seeing my PC??
