networking windows 98 and xp

im having trouble with a small home network.

we have a 4 port router over which we share a broadband connection. the internet connection sharing works fine, however file and print sharing are not working.

currently there are 2 computers on the router, a pc on port 1 running 98se and a pc on port 2 running xp home.

both are set to allow file and print sharing and have shared folders which should be accessible. the workgroup name is the same, and the pc on 98 can see the pc on xp in the network neighbourhood.

however if i click on the icon, it says the comupter is not accessible, and on the xp computer it permanantly says 'network not accessible'

have i missed something?

switch your firewall off then connect then switch your firewall back on.

Did you use the network wizard? The first time that you set up sharing, Windows XP displays a warning, urging you to use the Network Setup Wizard for safety. However one of the downsides of this is it turns on the built in firewall, check to see if its on.
